Kamouh El Hermel or the Pyramid of Hermel, also known as God’s Pramid or Needle of Hermel, is an ancient pyramid located 6 kilometres south of Hermel in Baalbek-Hermel Governorate, Lebanon.
Located on a hilltop surrounded by desert, the meaning and origin of the 27-meter high stone Hermel Pyramid remains unknown, shrouded in mystery and has puzzled historians. It might have functioned as a watch-tower, or could be a first or second-century BC tomb of a Syrian prince. The pyramid has some beautiful carvings and was recently restored. In fact, the pyramid is made of limestone blocks and has three steps leading up to it which are made of basalt. The structure has many etchings and carvings along its surface such as illustrations of a bear, a bull being attacked by two wolves and two dogs attacking a boar which is being speared. The monument is surrounded by a fence which acts as a protective barrier.
However, some suggest it may belong to Ancient Greece while others believe it to have been of Assyrian construction. The structure was subject to vandalism and graffiti over the years and some say it was stolen.
