The Nicolas Ibrahim Sursock Museum is a modern and contemporary art museum in the center of Beirut first opened in 1961, with a mission to collect, preserve and exhibit local and international art.
With over ten exhibitions a year – ranging from thematic group shows to solo shows by emerging artists and a diverse public program of talks, screenings and family workshops, the Museum aims to provide a platform for encounter and experimentation with art and ideas and to inform and challenge different audiences and communities in new and unexpected ways.
The Sursock Museum was born out of Lebanese collector Nicolas Sursock’s commitment to the endorsement and promotion of art. Recognizing the need for institutional support of artists in Lebanon, Sursock left his mansion to the citizens of Lebanon as an art museum upon his death in 1952.
