Jezzine is a town in Lebanon, located 22 km from Sidon and 40 km south of Beirut. It is the capital of Jezzine District. Surrounded by mountain peaks, pine forests, like the Bkassine Pine Forest, it is the main summer resort and tourist destination of South Lebanon. The town is also well-known in Lebanon for its production of handmade, traditional cutlery and daggers with decorative inlays, artisanal wine and the shrine of Our Lady of the Waterfall.
The Jezzine Waterfall is considered to be one of the greatest landmarks and tourist attractions that can be seen in the town of Jezzine, which is located in the eastern part of the South Governorate within the southern part of the Lebanese Republic. The waterfall is fed from the flow of the Jezzine River that has more water during springtime, which is also considered to be the best time to come and see this Lebanese miracle in person. Sadly, between June and August, the waterfall is not as strong and powerful and usually people are getting disappointed with what they see. Still, when there is water between September and May, the waterfall produces a thunderous sound that is almost deafening and presents a perfect opportunity to witness the might it keeps hidden during the dry season.
In addition to its spectacular image, there is the possibility to hike at the base of Jezzine’s Waterfall which will showcase to the visitors its real height. Aside from being a beautiful natural wonder, the waterfall also has a historical aspect. Right under it is the famous Fakhr El-Din Grotto. The cave is actually a tunnel that people can get into only by crawling. It was named after the Lebanese Emir since it was his hideaway from the Ottomans.
